The manufacturer calls it the ultimate driving machine, BMW and its competitors often showcase sporty cars, but at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, there is a battle.
“More than half of the market demand is for SUV and BMW didn’t have enough. But now the company is retooling its product strategy, it’s adding more capacity to build SUVs.And next year, BMW executives say, their ratio of SUVs to cars would be much more in step with the market, and they expect things to turn around.”
But then, there’s the reality of competing in a growing market of fully electric cars.
“Longer term, BMW executives plan to bring more electric vehicles to compete with Tesla. They showed a prototype of one here at LA of the eye vision, other brands are pursuing the same strategies.”
Swedish auto manufacture Volvo says, it will engineer its fleet to be all or at least partially electric, starting in 2019.Despite electric seemingly slated as ‘the car of tomorrow’,at least for today the market from large luxury SUVs remains a big money maker for automobile companies, with some models easily costing more than a hundred thousand dollars.
