This Tokyo researcher may be on the way to making broken cell phone screens a thing of the past. This is what he’s working on, a way to make broken glass fix itself without resorting to heating and remoulding the glass. He does it by making a glass that’s flexible but still strong.
Soft things are easier to repair but the harder more inflexible and stronger the material is the self-repairing property disappears.I had to find that point of balance.
Special polymers make the glass softer and stickier but right now it only really works on simple cracks. If the screen is shattered you are still out of luck. Yanagisawa says he thinks his glass could fix tiny cracks in car or train windows caused by pebbles or normal wear and tear.
You could apply the same principle to a crack that is not visible to the eye, for example, take high speed train troubles, although this has to do with metal.Big damages often happen because of an accumulation of wear and tear but if there is no accumulation of wear and tear, things can be used longer.
Broken cell phone screens are the main reason for cell phone failure and replacing a broken screen can cost hundreds of dollars.
